She nurtures and embodies the healing aspects of yoga: freeing the body, breath, and flow of energy through practicing with awareness, compassion, and love.
Cheri began her relationship with yoga in her mid-twenties during a personal health crisis. Yoga was an integral part of her healing process, and the desire to introduce yogic techniques to those in pain or recovering from illness has been strong for Cheri ever since. Through the slower, gentler meditative practices, Cheri guides her students inward to release accumulated stress and access the body's healing wisdom. Seeing people's soft and open faces at the end of practice always brings back to Cheri's heart the reason she loves teaching.
Cheri is the founder and director of the Therapeutic Yoga Training and co-author of the Therapeutic Yoga Kit. Cheri currently teaches yoga at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, where she founded the yoga program for cancer patients in 1999. With her teaching partner Arturo Peal , she leads the Therapeutic Yoga Training Levels I and II.
Cheri feels passionate about her collaboration with her husband Avahara, who plays beautiful ambient music for her workshops and has recorded and produced guided meditation CDs with her. You can find Cheri's guided meditation with Jack Lee, The Sun and Moon Meditation available on itunes.
With gratitude and reverence, Cheri wishes to acknowledge her students who have taught her so much and her beloved teachers Ganga White and Tracey Rich, Anna Delury, Erich Schiffmann, Paul and Suzee Grilley, Ty and Sarah Powers, Joseph LePage, Donna Farhi, and Richard Miller.
