(waves whooshing) Hi friends, welcome back. We looked at the primal sound uh, and its longer vowel ah in our previous episodes. We'll move on to the next important primary sound which is the ee. So the quality of the ee is that it represents relative existence. While the ah is said to form the basis of all sounds and allows them to emerge from it, the sound ee seems to allow that sound to come into manifestation.

The sound ee is also produced when we, block the back of our throat with our palate, the lower palate, so ee. Feel that? Ee. It's a very gentle movement, that ee. So what I would like you to do is to repeat the sound ee, but with an exaggeration of your lips and your mouth.

Okay, so let's do it. Eeeeee. But this time, we'll do it as the short vowel. Ee. Later on, we'll examine the longer vowel, which is the eeeeee.

Do the sound ee again. Ee. Feel the difference? Okay. The sound ee is as, in the ee of eternal, ee, the short one.

Its vibrating nature is to represent focus, direction, will, it's said to enhance one's motivation power, and a motivation directed towards a very specific result. So when one does the ee, it is said to build the willpower within the individual. So how we are going to do it is, sit comfortably again, close your eyes, and do the sound ee. Take a deep breath again, do the sound ee, and observe how your body would like to represent the sound. Start, take a deep breath.

Ee. So you would have noticed that when you take a deep breath, and you do a short sound ee, it leaves you wondering about what you should do with the rest of your breath. So what I would suggest is as you do the sound ee, let the rest of your breath carry the vibrations of the ee into your being. And see how that feels. Okay, now if one had to add a gesture to it, what kind of action would you do it with?

Any suggestions? Alright, this is how I can propose that you do it. Because it represents a determination, a certain focus, a willpower, we can represent it with the action as if you're cutting the space with your hand, starting from your forehead and all the way down. Gathering all your energies like a laser light. So imagine, or have a clear visualization that your hand represents a laser beam, and as you do the ee, let your hand fall.

Can we do that together now? So close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Put your hand on your forehead. And do the sound ee.

Once more. Take a deep breath, ee. So if you're feeling any time that you don't have the right kind of attitude, you lack the motivation to achieve something, that's when you play with the sound ee. That sound, when you do it longer, then adds more depth to the sound ee. So if you want to expand it or add more power behind the sound, you would practice more with the vowel eeeeee.

That gives it a sense of a sustained willpower and determination. So close your eyes. Take a deep breath. And do the sound, eeeeeeee. Lovely.

You can then try and even exaggerate it with your mouth, so really pull it into an exaggerated smile and do the sound, and see if that changes the quality of the sound. Once more, eeeeeeeee. Initially it might sound strange and it might feel strange to be exaggerating and making all these sounds. But I assure you that if you stay with these sounds, and you start observing their effect on your being, and the more you allow your being to just relax, you are sure to experience the powerful impact of these sound in yourself. Because this sound is said to be the sound of intensifying the will as a ruling power.

It's the sound of the divine mother, the supreme dynamic energy behind things. It says that at a physical level, the sound ee can help to increase our vital energy. It stimulates the whole nervous system and improves our vision. At a psychological level it can help us develop insight, vision, imagination, motivation. And overall if you have been sensitive to the sound, you will see that it sort of electrifies our being.

So it can, as a result, help to stimulate our imagination, it can add to the motivation factor within oneself. I would suggest that you accompany the sound ee, with the action of cutting the space, but this time with both your hands. So, very strongly take both your hands over your head with your palms joined, and then as you do the sound ee, just cut the space as consciously as you can. Right? We'll do it with the sound ee, so take a deep breath.

Take your hands up. Eeeeeeeeeeeee. There's another idea that I like to play with when we do the sound ee, another gesture that I could propose. Is that, with your palms together, in the gesture of namaste in India, if you would be familiar. Hold it in front of your chest in a horizontal manner, and then as you do the sound ee, do as if you're piercing the air in front of you.

Piercing the atmosphere. And you can accompany that with your intention of intensifying your will. This is particularly helpful if you feel that you're lacking that fire, that intensity to do something. So if you want to strengthen your power of motivation, if you want to strengthen your willpower, then this is the sound that you would like to experiment with. I have made a few suggestions with regarding postures and movements, but feel free to discover your own.

What speaks to you, is the best for you. So we'll do the sound ee twice, once we'll join the hand over the head and bring it down, and the second time, you hold the hand, your palms in front of your chest, and very consciously pierce the air in front of you. And allow the vibration to continue even when you run out of breath. Alright? So close your eyes.

Take your hands over your head. Take a deep breath. Do the ee. Eeeeeeeeeeeee. Take a deep breath.

Bring your hands in front of your chest. And as if you're gonna pierce the air in front of you, do the sound ee with an exaggerated lip movement. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee. It is said that where there is a will, there is a way. So if you can master your will, there is nothing that can stop you from achieving whatever you want to achieve.

All the best.

I'm really feeling these, thank you! so how do I incorporate mantra work into my Yoga practice?
Kira Sloane
Dearest Maria Elena, so glad you are here and enjoying the Mantra Show. While mantra is a practice in itself, you can play with allowing the sounds to lengthen your exhales in the asana practice. Play with audibly and eventually silently chanting the sounds. You can also direct the sounds to particular areas of your body in more passive postures. Maybe Anuradha will have other ideas. Love, Kira

Dear Maria Elena, Thank you for sharing your encouraging feedback! Glad to know that these sounds are resonating with you. As Kira Sloane mentioned, you could play with the lengths of the sounds and see how it influences your breath and also 'touch' different parts of your body internally as well as externally with these sounds. I would also suggest that you try playing with these sounds in your daily life like when you are cooking or driving or just doing nothing in particular to see how they can change the quality of your mind stuff and subtly tune your being to your inner self and connect to the cosmos as well. These sounds are powerful links to unite us to our real self which can then open up new dimensions of our being. Try to chant them as often as you can and all life will become Yoga - as Sri Aurobindo, a philosopher Sage from South India said. Enjoy the journey of transformation :)
