Description

James leads us in a call-and-response of verses 2.20 - 2.29 of the Bhagavad Gita. In verses 20, 22, and 29 we encounter a different kind of metre—with longer quarters and more syllables. He repeats those verses back twice, whereas for verses 2.21 & 2.23 - 2.28, he repeats back once.

Follow along with us with the attached PDF transliteration of Chapter 2. James begins chanting verse 2.20 located halfway down on page 18.

So now we're going to do verses 20 to 29 and in the 20th, 22nd and 29th verse we'll encounter the different type of meter with longer quarters, more syllables. And so for those verses I will repeat twice. So I'll recite it once and then twice more, which we're going to repeat together. But for 21 and 23 to 28, we'll just do it once because that's the, which by now it's the probably more familiar Anushtuk meter. Here we go.

What is the significance of the different metre?  Is it more of a descriptive narrative?  Whatever its purpose I really like it - it seems to me to be of a slower rhythm, and when I listen without looking at the text it always takes me by surprise
