Chapter 1

Ong Namo

Sat Naam, welcome back and now we've talked about mantras and their effects and how they can really help us to control our mind and bring peace to our everyday life and help us confront the challenges that we face in our daily lives. Let's go and have an experience of the practice. I'm going to take you through some of the key mantras, just a few of them, that we use as a foundational practice in Kundalini Yoga. So Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo, you already know and we'll go through it again and really work on the pronunciation and feel into it. Especially with the mantra, I've been a deep student of mantra for the last 13 years.

It's my biggest love because it has healed me so much. So I love to share the science of mantra and how they really work. And really what it is, is to connect to the essence of the mantra. And all these mantras contain the essence of peace, connection, prosperity and positivity. And it's really through chanting them and having the experience that you can actually experience the benefits.

So be brave if you've never done mantra and just go for it. And it's not about getting it perfectly right, it's just about your heart being into it, your intention. And we're learning and it's a practice. So just remembering that as you tackle some of the more complicated mantras. But we're going to keep it very simple for this practice.

Let's begin with Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo is the foundational tuning in Adi mantra. Every Kundalini yoga class as taught by Yogi Bajan in this lineage will always tune in with the Adi mantra three times. Sometimes you might hear it five times depending what the teacher's feeling and if they really want to get into it or get the class into it in a deeper way. And Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo means I bow to the creative wisdom, I bow to the divine teacher within me.

So it's acknowledging that all the knowledge is within us, that we have everything we need within us to make it in this life, essentially. So let's work on the mantra itself a little bit, Ang. So when you're reciting Ang, O-N-G, you want to feel it at the back of the throat and up a little bit into the nasal cavity. So let's practice that together a little bit, Ang. Really feeling it resonating so that it's resonating in your brain, Ang.

So when we chant Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo, we're really accentuating the Ang and diving deep into that. So I've got the harmonium with me and we can really use that for the resonance so that we can dive deep into the sound together. So let's start with Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. Also one more thing about that mantra, it is what links us to the golden chain of Kundalini Yoga. The golden chain is what links us and connects us to all the past teachers, to this whole lineage of Kundalini Yoga, to all the different teachers throughout time.

And in essence when we're chanting that mantra, it's like we're creating not only that connection with the whole lineage, but we're also creating sacred space. We're creating protection around the space. We are about to practice these very sacred teachings and we're initiating it with this mantra, Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. You can put your hands together at the heart center just to tune into the frequency of the Adi Mantra. Take a deep inhale, Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo.

Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo, Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. Couple more rounds. Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo, Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. Ang Namo, Guru Dev Namo. There are also specific meditations you can use with that mantra which you can find.

Chapter 2

Sat Nam

Sat Naam is the next one we are working with. So Sat is the root of Satya in Sanskrit which means truth. And Naam relates to in Kundalini Yoga as name. So when we say Sat Naam, which you'll hear a lot in Kundalini Yoga, I use that as a greeting, Sat Naam, it's simply saying, affirming truth is my identity rather than saying hi or stuff like that. We say to each other Sat Naam, which means it's kind of like Namaste.

I bow to the truth in you. Truth is my identity, I recognize that I'm not just a human being. I am half human, I am half soul. And so I am igniting the oneness within that affirmation. Sat Naam.

It is also, Sat is a bhij mantra which means a seed sound. So it really resonates at the frequency of the heart center. And it helps us to remember our original self, what we call in Kundalini Yoga, the original self. Before we came with all the stories and everything that we take on in this lifetime, the identity. So going back to the original self.

So Sat Naam and we'll chant it in a similar fashion, quite monotone and just feel into the sound, feel how the sound resonates within your sacred space, within this human vessel which is designed to bring the gifts of the soul to earth. Deep inhale, hands and pray a pose. Sat Naam. Inhale. Sat Naam.

Inhale. Sat Naam. Sat Naam. Inhale. Sat Naam.

Inhale. Sat Naam. Sat Naam. Sat Naam. Sat Naam.

The last one. And just resting in that truth, in that identity and the Sat, the truth merging into the oneness.

Chapter 3

Wahe Guru

The next one we're working with is Wahi Guru. When we say Guru, Guru, Guru in Kundalini Yoga, we're referring to the Guru, the darkness, to the Ru, to the light. And the Guru is the one that takes you from darkness to light, from the Gu to the Ru.

So it's a nice way to relate to it. Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Jio. This is kind of like, ah, hallelujah, right? It's kind of like, wow, how incredible and indescribable is the great wisdom of the unseen, of the divine, of God, of the universe, whatever it is that you relate to as a higher power. Wow, how incredible is God's blessing on this soul.

Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Jio. And in Kundalini Yoga, it is used in the early morning prayers as one of the seven Aquarian mantras and it's done for 22 minutes in the morning, which is lovely. It's a great experience if you ever get to do that, enjoy. And it's also used in many different ways throughout classes. Many different meditations use this mantra.

It is commonly used in any class that you might go to. You might hear it as a recording or you might do it as a meditation. So I want to teach you and we'll go through it together a few times and really get a feel for it. So let's look at the pronunciation, Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Guru, Wahi Jio, Jio, right? The soul, Jio is the soul.

So let's do that. It's quite simple and just sit with the hands in Guillaume Mudra and feel into the vibration of this mantra. It is known as the Mantra of Ecstasy. It is known as the Mantra of Ecstasy. It is known as the Mantra of Ecstasy, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Jio, Vaheguru, Vahegior, Vaheguru, Vaheguru, Vaheguru, Vahegior, Vaheguru, Vaheguru, Vaheguru, Vahegion.

The Mantra for Ecstasy.

Chapter 4

Ra Ma Da Sa

This next mantra is really a favorite among Kundalini Yogis because again it is one of the more simple mantras and it stimulates the Kundalini energy to heal. So it's a mantra we use a lot for healing. It can be healing the self, anything that you've got going on with the body energetically, with a relationship, finances, whatever, wherever a healing needs to occur. This mantra is beautiful for that.

And it also, it gives you the capacity to project the healing elsewhere. So when we get in large groups in Kundalini Yoga, sometimes we do a global prayer for healing and we use this mantra. The mantra is Ra, Ma, Da, Sa, Sa, Se, So, Hung. And on the Hung, H-U-N-G, you always pull in the navel slightly, Hung. So Ra, Ma, Da, Sa, Sa, Se, So, Hung.

And it's such a beautiful mantra because to me it feels like it's encompassing the whole of the universe. Ra is the sun, Ma is the moon, Da is the earth, Ra, Ma, Da, Sa is impersonal infinity, Sa, Se, So, Hung is that merging with your infinite self. So it calls on the energy of the sun and the moon and the spirit to channel towards healing. So let's have an experience with that. This one is less monotone.

It's more of a song format, but it really invokes the heart and allows us, once we get into the heart, to allow that healing energy to pour forth from the heart. You can keep your hands in Gyan Mudra or one of the positions that we often use with this meditation is the palms facing upwards to the heavens, allowing the cosmic energy, the heavenly energy to rain down into the hands. So keeping the hands flat, the spine nice and straight, the eyes are closed at the brow point and we'll just chant for a few minutes to get a feel of it. Rama Dasa, Sa, Se, So, Hung, Rama Dasa, Sa, Se, So, Hung is the moon, Ma is the moon, So, Hung, Rama Dasa, Sa, Se, So, Hung, Rama Dasa, So, Hung is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the moon, Ma is the Rama dasa sa se suhang Rama dasa sa sa se suhang Rama dasa sa sa se suhang Rama dasa sa sa se suhang Rama dasa sa sa sa se suhang Inhale deeply, feeling the cosmic energy come on down and just place your hands on your heart or wherever your body most needs healing and relax. This is a beautiful and very powerful mantra and really use it and share it and give it to somebody that may be looking for healing in their lives because it really works.

Chapter 5

Ek Ong Kaur

This next mantra is extremely strong, let's say, and it's to be chanted with great reverence and we actually need to tune in with a special mantra before I can share this mantra with you as really a way to honor.

So we'll just do a call and response for this tuning in mantra so that I can share this one because you kind of learn two in one, but there will also be an additional practice with this first mantra that I will share with you which you can check out. So it's adgore namay, jugaadgore namay, satgore namay, siri gurudevay namay. That's just the tuning in mantra so that I can share this most reverential mantra with you. So we'll do a call and response. Hands in prayer pose at the heart, deep inhale. Satgore namay, siri gurudevay namay, adgore namay, jugaadgore namay, satgore namay, siri gurudevay namay.

Beautiful. So this mantra, ik on kar, satgore prasad, satgore prasad, ik on kar. This is the magic mantra. I use it almost every day because what it does is it reverses any negative thinking and brings it back into the positive. So if you have a negative thought, you can chant it out loud five times or more but a minimum of five times and or you can chant it silently within you. ik on kar, satgore prasad, P-R-A-S-A-D, prasad, and then you reverse the mantra. Satgore prasad, ik on kar. Okay. Here is the translation. There is one creator of all creation. All is a blessing. All creation is a blessing of the one creator and this realization comes from by the Guru's grace.

And the Guru, again, we're looking at it to the guide which takes us from darkness to light. So ik on kar, satgore prasad, satgore prasad, ik on kar. And we'll do a very simple melody and just work with that mantra for a little bit. You can just sit with your hands in ghee on mudra. ik on kar, satgore prasad, satgore prasad, ik on kar. ik on kar, satgore prasad, satgore prasad, ik on kar.

Sattungur Prasad, Ek Kankar, Ek Kankar, Sattungur Prasad, Sattungur Prasad, Ek Kankar, Ek Kankar, Ekonkar, Ekonkar Satgur Prasad, Satgur Prasad, Ekonkar, Ekonkar Satgur Prasad, Satgur Prasad, Ekonkar, Ekonkar Satgur Prasad, Satgur Prasad, Ekonkar. Deep inhale. Hold that breath. Seal that mantra. And exhale. Good. So now you've learned a few of the key mantras that we use in Kundalini yoga classes and practices. And I hope that you'll find some resonance with one of them. And look it up. There are many beautiful versions by many different, quite lovely artists in this genre. And there's just, you know, one of the foundational things about Kundalini yoga is the music. And a lot of people come through to the practice of Kundalini yoga through the music. So if there was one mantra that really resonated with you, find an artist, find all the artists that share that mantra and listen and see which one speaks to your heart and have an experience with the mantra. Maybe a 40-day practice with the meditation, with the mantra would be a great way to start. Enjoy yourself. Sat Naam.
